Academic Update

Academic Update:

Writer's Workshop:
We finished our Opinion/ Review Writing on Monday. We are now starting our next unit, which is Personal Narratives- small moment writing.

Word Study:
We are continuing our knowledge of the alphabet (in and out of order), beginning sounds, ending sounds, stretching the through words sounds and word parts.

They like to echo the teacher, air write and trace letters on a buddy's back.

Math Workshop:
They really enjoyed learning about shapes. We finished the unit about 2d and 3d shapes and are now moving on to number sense- knowing numbers in and out of order, skip counting, and using ten frames.

Composite shapes

Social Studies:
We are still learning about Citizenship and Government. We plan to finish this unit this week and start Geography next week.

The 7 Habits:
The students are learning the 7 Habits. We use and talk about all 7 habits as they pertain to the situation, but at the beginning of the school year we talk about them in isolation so they have a full understanding of what each one means and how to use them in their daily life.  ( hopefully you saw this in their binder).  Our focus has been habit number 1 and 2- Be Proactive and Begin with the end in Mind. We will move on to Habit 3 and 4 in October.  The book titled What Should Danny Do?  has been a very inspirational book for us in the classroom! Hopefully your child can tell you all about it!

The students LOVE library time every other Tuesday! They are encouraged to pick books for enjoyment- a just right book and / or a book that someone else can read to them.

We have started the second book of the STINK series! They love these books!

Thank you to Frederick's mom for being a Mystery Reader on Tuesday. The kiddos really enjoyed the book titled Frederick.
