Thank you for coming to Curriculim Night! I really appreciate you taking the time to come learn about your kiddo's school day!!

I realized that I forgot to give you the details about being a Mystery Reader- so sorry!!

Here are the details:

Email me if you are interested and give me one or two dates and times that work for you to come in and read to the class.( the best times for us are between  9-9:30, 11:30-12:30, and 1:45-2:30) I will get back to about which date and time will work best. After we have the date and time scheduled, please do not tell your child that you are coming! You just need to bring a favorite picture book to read to the class. It only takes about 15 minutes or so. The kids will guess who the reader is about 5 minutes before you get here. Please check in at the office and they will call down saying that our reader is here. Your child and a friend will come get you from the office.

We look forward to many Mystery Readers this school year!

Here are some great pics from last Friday.

A getting to know you activity

our first visit to the Creation Station- reading the book titled There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly and creating our own bugs

Well, believe it or not it has been a week already! Since having a great classroom community is so important, we have been talking a lot about our classroom rules and started talking about the 7 Habits! Here are our rules.

You will notice these are also posted in your child's planner. I may put an x by one of the rules if your child needed a few reminders throughout the school day with one of these rules. If I have a bigger concern than that, I will call home. I know as a parent it is helpful to have this information so you can reinforce these things at home! Thank you in advance for your support! It really makes an impact in the classroom!

This is a WONDERFUL book that we started reading today! It has 9 different endings based on the choices that the students decide on. We will be talking a lot about the POWER to CHOOSE! Each child has the POWER to CHOOSE their own behavior- ( to pay attention, to speak nicely, to share, to listen to the teacher...)! We will read this book over the next few days to hear the other endings. They all got a sticker for their planner. They will use it as a reminder:  They have POWER to CHOOSE!!
Ask your child about the book: What Should Danny Do?

Thank you to all the parents for helping us on Eclipse Day! I really appreciate your help!

Ask your kiddo about the stories from the past 5 days: First Day Jitters, David Goes to School, Chrysanthemum, Recess Queen

Academic Update:

Word Work:
We are learning the routine for sorting activities. We typically learn a letter sound, letter patterns, blends... and spend some time sorting them in a sorting journal. This week the kiddos sorted the names of classmates into girls and boys and on Wednesday they sorted lower case letters into groups of "tall, short, hang your bottom down". They are doing such a great job learning the basic routines.

Reading:
We are learning how to read with a buddy in the Eek! position: Elbow to elbow, knee to knee, book in the middle so we both can see! Finding our own bubble space is so important. We want to make sure our reading does not disturb others!

Math:
Math workshop stations have begun! They are doing a great job learning how to go to their station quietly and putting first things first to focus on math.

Planner Info:
I write the reminder on the board each day and the students copy the reminder. This reminder is for the whole class. There may be times that the reminder does not necessarily pertain to you, but please still sign the planner anyway. I may write a specific note to you by the behavior section of the planner if needed.  Sometimes it will be a star, smile face, or sticker.

Brr, its cold in here! You may want to send a sweatshirt or a sweater with your child each day or to keep in their cubby. Our classroom is very chilly!

I look forward to seeing you at Curriculum Night on the 29th at 6pm in room 22.

Happy First Day

# firstdayflyers
It was a WONDERFUL first day!

Take a look at some things we did today...

Getting to know our classmates!

Watching a funny video about classroom rules!

Reading to stuffed animals in the afternoon!

Listening to this wonderful story and learning about the "drops" we can earn throughout the day for being a leader!

Tomorrow will be another day of developing classroom community and learning about our classroom.

We will have snack each day around 2:45pm. Your child may bring a peanut free snack that does not require a utensil to school each day!

Your child will bring home Leadership Binders everyday and a yellow planner. These will start coming home on Monday.

I will send home more info about our daily routines next week.

Thank you for your help! You all have such precious first graders!
