Once your child has been recognized, they will wear a baseball hat to the monthly Character Assemblies.

Exciting News! Miss Richardson will be a teacher intern in our classroom next semester. Many of you got the chance to meet her at the Curriculum Night this past August. Burrr.../ Early Release Reminder

FYI:
Now that the weather is getting colder please be sure to dress your child appropriately for school. Your child goes outside for recess 20 minutes each day. Please make sure they have a winter coat, hat and gloves when needed. When in doubt, send them with winter coats. Being outside on the playground is much colder than just waiting for the bus or walking into the building from the bus or car.

Here are two examples of students dressed appropriately for recess!

Hi Families,

Today your child will bring home their first Spelling list. With this program, each child will choose 5 words from a list generated by the teacher and students based on a spelling principle or theme.  The other 5 words will be taken from the sight word lists in the back of their planner. The students were tested over the words and the words highlighted are the words they already know how to write correctly. Please do not highlight in their palnner, your child will highlight the sight words as they get them correct on the written spelling test.
The students will make two lists – one to keep at school and one on the homework packet.  Please remember that the spelling list is on the front of the homework packet. They will have a weekly spelling test on Fridays.

This week's spelling principle: add a letter to a little word
example little word: and
                s + and    sand
                b+ and    band
                l+ and     land

Thanks- Mrs. Boyd

Updates

I hope everyone enjoyed the 3 day weekend. The students did a great job coming back to school and remembering the routines we have set in place since the first week of school.
They started Daily 5 on Friday. They are doing a good job remembering that their voices need to be  "off" unless they are reading quietly. Today there was a "buzz" in the room as they were all reading or writing. I am very proud of them!

Here are a few reminders:
  •  Snack- peanut free, quick simple snack to hold them over until they get home
  • Birthday treats- store bought, no nuts
  • Office Forms- please turn in all of your office paperwork that you received over the summer.
  • Library is on Mondays (unless we are off on Monday we will switch it for that week)
  • Counseling is on Tuesdays every 3rd week.
  • Please take a look at the Scholastic order forms (due date is September 14th)

We used the clickers for the first time today. During math we talked about addition number stories. We used a flipchart with number story pictures and they used the clicker to give the answer (the sum). Ask your child about the clickers! Here are a few photos:

Hello,
We had a wonderful first week of school. The students are doing a good job learning the routines. Next week they will practice some more routines for our literacy block- Daily 5. They will also get on the laptops for the first time. We have the laptops on Wednesday afternoons. They will learn how to log in with their user name, password, and get onto the class blog. Please make sure your child has their headphones/ ear buds by Wednesday the 29th.

I look forward to seeing all of you on Tuesday August 28th for Curriculum Night. Please come to the classroom (room 22) at 6:30pm.

Here are some fun pictures of the students reading to their stuffed animal for "Read to Self" (one of the Daily 5 choices that they are learning about). They really enjoy reading to the stuffed animals.
