"Bring Your Own Device"

Hello Families,
Our class will have a "bring your own device" day on Friday. They will get to use their device during a free choice time that they earned as a class. It is not a requirement that your child brings a device. We have computers and laptops here for them to use. They may also buddy up with another child who has a device. Your child is responsible for the device they bring into school. They will need to keep it in their backpack until we are ready to use it. The types of devices they can bring in are as follows:
Ipod
Ipod Touch
Iphone
DS
DSI
DS3
laptop
Leapster
Nook
Kindle
PsP
*Please make sure your child is bringing a device that they are familiar with and have used several times before. Please make sure the device has been registered and set up already. This will be a time for your child to play games and do activities on their device. Once we are more comfortable with using our device at school we can start to utilize them for academics.

100th Day- Jan. 26th/ clickers

We will celebrate 100th day on the 26th. Our class has been "scooping to 100"  since the first day of school. It is only natural that we celebrate with ice cream sundaes. I will provide the ice cream. If you are interested in donating an item for our celebration please email me or respond to this. Please do not send anything in yet. Please wait for my confirmation via email. We do not want to have way too many of something and not enough of the other. After you get my confirmation, I will let you know when to send the items in. Here are the items we need for our celebration:
1 bag of m n m's
1 bottle of chocolate sauce
1 package of Oreo cookies
2 jars of cherries
1 jar of strawberry sundae sauce/ jelly
2 containers of whip cream

Thank you in advance for your help!

Check out the pictures below to see the students working with the "clickers". They love the new technology. I can create questions or a set of directions. They can use the "clicker" to give their answer. After all the students have answered a graph can be created of the results. We started very simple and we will be doing many more exciting things with them. I will keep posted on how we use the "clickers" and all the cool things they can do with them. Stay tuned!

Report Cards

Hello Parents,

Your child's report card is coming home today in their folder. There is also the "Weekend News" writing samples for your child to keep at home. Please remember that "Weekend News" is an independent writing activity that they complete on their own every Monday morning. You may notice what your child is doing well in and what your child needs to work on during their everyday writing-(example name and date, capitals, ending marks, spelling sight words correctly...). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thanks again for your help and support!

P.S. Don't forget that Wednesday is an early release day.

Updates

Happy New Year! It sounds like everyone enjoyed the winter break. Thank you to all the parents who helped with the winter party- parents who sent in snacks, treats and volunteers at the party. I really appreciate your help and support.

We are ready to get back into the swing of things. The students are ready for writers workshop and excited to take our math to the next level. We are finishing up graphs during math time and will start place value next week. The students are learning about the Human Body during project time. I think they will enjoy the skeleton they will make later this week.

The students made a goal for school. They created a little New Year's person and wrote down their 2012 goal for school. Here is a cute picture of their work.

Your child will get a yellow paper for Six Flags Read to Succeed. I told the students today that the reading they do each week for the homework reading log counts for the reading log on the Six Flags paper. The same book titles from the homework reading log can be written down on the yellow paper. Keep the yellow paper at home until the deadline. The paper is due Feb. 21st. Everyone should get a free ticket to Six Flags, just keep doing the homework packet!
