Writer's Workshop, Winter Writing Activity, Experimenting with air

The students have been working so hard on their informational chapter books. Yes, I did say chapter books! They are doing such a good job writing with a teaching voice about each chapter. They have many things to incorporate into their informational writing piece. This week's focus is how to write chapter titles, important things to remember when writing an introduction and adding a "how to" or "list" paper to a chapter.

We read the story Snowmen at Night today. They worked on a creative writing activity as a follow up to the story. The students wrote to a prompt- What would your snowman do at night? The most important part of this activity was to have fun with their story and see if they can remember to use the things they have learned during Writer's Workshop (introduction, sequence words, conclusion, using resources, no mixing, capitals, ending marks). They created really cute stories!

Science- exploring and learning about Matter. They experimented with air today. They had to observe and notice what happens with the elephant and bunny spinners. When they finished observing, they wrote about their observations and made predictions.  Ask your child - "what is matter?" Hopefully they answer- anything that has mass and takes up space.
