Writing Celebration

They are so proud of their
Informational Chapter Books!!

For our Writers' Celebration they shared their book with another first grader. The students enjoyed reading to a buddy and giving each other compliments. They all worked so hard and will be very excited to bring it home (next week).

Below is the rubric for Informational Chapter Books. Please note that I look for evidence of the items from the rubric. I do not expect their work to be perfect. The book was a working progress. They chose one of their books to "Fancy Up" and try to add elements taught during the mini lessons (rubric). Hopefully you will enjoy the process of their book as much as I do (the different pen color shows them adding more details, scratching out to make it better, and the constant revising, making pictures teaching pictures, trying to have an introduction, trying to create an ending, trying to spell words correctly)
Enjoy!

Have a great Holiday!

Guided Reading Books Coming home

Your child will start bringing home guided reading books (books that are from instruction during small group reading). By the time your child brings home the book, it will be a familiar book and a just right book for them to read independently. This book can be a book they read for their homework reading log (and the Six Flags Log). Please return the book in the envelope the very next school day! I will write the date and book title. Parents- please sign the log and send it to school with your child.

This is a great resource for everyone:
child- just right books to read independently at home (the child reads the book to someone at home)
parents- will know what a just right book looks like for their child

Burr it's cold outside!

Now that the weather is colder, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. They are outside for 20-25 minutes at recess which is a lot longer than you think when you are not dressed warm enough.

What are we up to?

Our academic focus:

Adopt- a- Family started this week. It would be wonderful if every student can try to bring in one item a day or a few items each week. We can use Habit 6 and Synergize to make a BIG difference for the Concord families in need.

Your child will bring home the Six Flags reading log this week. Please be sure to fill it out and return it to school when your child has read a total of 6 hours. Your child can use the same book titles for the Six Flags log and the reading log with the homework packet.
