Thank you very much for coming to our Curriculum Night last night. I hope you feel like you have a better idea of what your child's day is like in first grade. 

Spelling words: 
Your child has a list of the 100 sight words in the back of the planner. After taking the sight word pre-assessment, your child will use a highlighter to highlight the words they already know how to spell. The will pick words that are not highlighted each week to make their 5 spelling words. Please do not mark on the sight words in the planner. Your child will be highlighting the words they got correct on the test each Friday. Spelling test will start the week of September 9th. Their words will be on the front of the homework packet. The spelling test will be every Friday. There will be no spelling words when we have a Monday or a Friday off of school.

Hello Families, 

We have had a wonderful first full week of school. The students learned some routines of our classroom this week. We will continue to learn more routines next week as well. Some of the routines they learned are: 

• Daily 5- read to self, read to someone and listen to reading
• Writer's Workshop- mini lesson, writing time and sharing time
• Unpacking
• Packing up

I am so proud of them! They have been using Habit 1- Being Proactive. Please ask your child how they can be Proactive in the classroom. Hopefully you have had a chance to see the 7 Habits bookmark that was sent home earlier this week. Please feel free to start talking about the habits at home with your child. 

Office forms- please turn in all of the office forms as soon as possible. There are four forms: handbook, bio sheet, emergency info and early release. 

Please mark your calendar for Curriculum night. It is on Aug. 29th from 6-6:30 pm. The is a wonderful opportunity for you to hear all about "their day as a first grader ". I will give you an overview of our routines and expectations and discuss homework. This is for the adults only please. I sure hope you can make it!
